founding Chairman of Kayak.com, Terry Jones has become a powerful voice

Camping and Education Foundation. He has previously served on the boards

Brian David Johnson is a Professor of Practice at Arizona State University’s School for the Future of Innovation in Society, and a Futurist and Fellow at Frost & Sullivan, a visionary innovation company that’s focused on growth. He also works with governments, militaries, trade organizations, and startups to help them envision their future. 

He has over 30 patents and is the author of a number of books of fiction and nonfiction, including Science Fiction Prototyping; Screen Future: The Future of Entertainment, Computing and the Devices We Love; Humanity and the Machine: What Comes After Greed?; and Vintage Tomorrows: A Historian and a Futurist Journey through Steampunk into the Future of Technology. His writing has appeared in publications ranging from The Wall Street Journal and Slate to IEEE Computer and Successful Farming, and he appears regularly on Bloomberg TV, PBS, Fox News, and the Discovery Channel.

A former chief futurist at Intel Corporation, his charter was to develop an actionable vision for computing in 2020. His work was called future casting using ethnographic field studies, technology research, trend data, and even science fiction to provide Intel with a pragmatic vision of consumers and computing. Along with reinventing TV, Johnson had been pioneering development in artificial intelligence, robotics and using science fiction as a design tool.

He has directed two feature films, and is an illustrator and commissioned painter.

YANIS VAROUFAKIS BIOGRAPHY

Yanis Varoufakis served as Minister of Finance of Greece in during one of the most dramatic periods in the country’s modern history. He has since gone on to be a leading anti-austerity voice across Europe and the world, supporting a more progressive, left-leaning solution to the economic woes many have faced since the banking crisis. After the financial crisis that nearly bankrupted the country, Greece witnessed political and social turmoil rarely seen in Europe for over 50 years. With general elections and referenda happening almost yearly, there was a search for stability as the country sought to negotiate its national debt.

The election of the socialist Syriza (or Coalition of the Radical Left) saw Yanis elected to parliament and appointed as Finance Minister shortly afterwards. The party promised to stand firm against the ECB-imposed austerity measures and Yanis led discussions with the bank, the IMF and EU members. Faced with a new bail-out proposal, Yanis staked his political career on rejecting it. When a national referendum on the scheme approved it, true to his word, he resigned from government.

Since his brief stint in politics Yanis has returned to economics, and has becoming a leading critic of austerity plans around the world. He is also outspoken on the EU and the ECB for their actions and lack of accountability. Often controversial, but always considered, he compiled his thoughts on global economics and the aftermath of the financial crisis in his book And The Weak Suffer What They Must?: Europe, Austerity and the Threat to Global Stability.

Educated in Greece and the UK, Yanis has taught economics and econometrics at the University of Essex and the University of East Anglia. He was a Fellow at the University of Cambridge, was a senior lecturer in economics at the University of Sydney, and became Professor of Economic Theory at the University of Athens. Whilst in Athens he also served as economic advisor to George Papandreou, then Prime Minister of Greece.

Yanis is also the author of several books on game theory, and is a regular in the news media all over the world. As well as challenging political and economic conventions he explains complex issues in accessible, relevant language.

Neil Harbisson is a Catalan-raised, British-born contemporary artist and cyborg activist best known for having an antenna implanted in his skull and for being officially recognised as a cyborg by a government. The antenna allows him to perceive visible and invisible colours such as infrareds and ultraviolets via sound waves. The antenna’s internet connection allows him to receive colours from space as well as images, videos, music or phone calls directly into his head via external devices such as mobile phones or satellites.

Harbisson identifies himself as a cyborg, he feels both his mind and body are united to cybernetics. He doesn’t feel he is using or wearing technology, instead he feels he is technology. His artworks investigate the relationship between colour and sound, experiment the boundaries of human perception and explore the use of artistic expression via sensory extensions.

In 2010 he co-founded the Cyborg Foundation with Moon Ribas, an international organisation that aims to help humans become cyborgs, defend cyborg rights and promote cyborgism as a social and artistic movement.

Dr. Aubrey de Grey is a controversial scientist, prominent for claiming that human beings will eventually eradicate ageing. Ken Goldberg is the craigslist Distinguished Professor of New Media and Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) at the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds an appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco. 

Cloud Robotics has potential to improve robot performance in at least five ways: 1) Big Data: indexing a global library of images, maps, and object data, 2) Cloud Computing: parallel grid computing on demand for statistical analysis, learning, and motion planning, 3) Open-Source / Open-Access: humans sharing code, data, algorithms, and hardware designs, 4) Collective Robot Learning: robots sharing trajectories, job planning, and outcomes, and 5) Crowdsourcing and call centers: offline and on-demand human guidance for evaluation, learning, and error recovery.
