      He is an artist, writer, inventor, and researcher in the field of robotics and automation.

      Ken Goldberg is the craigslist Distinguished Professor of New Media and Professor of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR) at the University of California, Berkeley. He also holds an appointment in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco. 

      Cloud Robotics has potential to improve robot performance in at least five ways: 1) Big Data: indexing a global library of images, maps, and object data, 2) Cloud Computing: parallel grid computing on demand for statistical analysis, learning, and motion planning, 3) Open-Source / Open-Access: humans sharing code, data, algorithms, and hardware designs, 4) Collective Robot Learning: robots sharing trajectories, job planning, and outcomes, and 5) Crowdsourcing and call centers: offline and on-demand human guidance for evaluation, learning, and error recovery.

      Ken trains the next generation of researchers and entrepreneurs in his research lab at UC Berkeley.  Ken is a pioneer in technology and visual expression, bridging the “Two Cultures” of Art and Science. With unique skills in creative problem solving, invention, and thinking on the edge, Ken has presented over 400 keynote and invited lectures to audiences around the world at events such as the World Economic Forum, Aspen Ideas Festival, Google Zeitgeist, TEDx, Web 2.0, SXSW, and at Google, General Electric, Intel, Cisco, Fujitsu, Siemens, Autodesk, Samsung, Tata, Vodefone, Deutsche Telekom, Fidelity, and Flextronics on topics such as the five listed below.

      Ken was awarded 9 US patents, the NSF Presidential Faculty Fellowship (PECASE 1995), the Joseph Engelberger Award (top honor in Robotics, 2000), the IEEE Major Educational Innovation Award (2001), and elected IEEE Fellow in in 2005. With unique skills in creative problem solving, invention, and thinking on the edge, Ken has engaged audiences around the world in over 400 keynotes.
